What you will do:

We're seeking a reporter to cover local government news in the city of Whittier for the Whittier Daily News. Whittier is an always busy community, largely self-contained that grapples with growth and access issues as well as aiming to maintain its historical uniqueness. Higher education is vital here as well as K-12 concerns. Environmental issues are also top of mind here. We're looking for someone who's accustomed to getting news posted swiftly and accurately. Ideal candidates have the ability to help produce and polish strong enterprise and breaking news for online, mobile and print platforms; and can cultivate sources in person and via social media.

Who you are

  • Three to four years experience reporting desired but we will consider experienced reporters with demonstrated abilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism or related field

  • Strong news judgment

  • Excellent writing and reporting skills, including knowledge of AP style

  • Strong understanding of social media 

  • Basic photo and/or video skills appreciated
