Report to: Board of Directors

Status: Full-time/Exempt.

Location: Foundation Offices, Eugene, OR

Salary: $85,000/year plus benefits

 

Organization:

Eugene Public Library Foundation (EPLF) supports Eugene Public Library in its mission to inspire lifelong learning and to enrich the entire community. As advocates and champions for the Eugene Public Library, literacy, and equitable access to knowledge, we raise funding and resources to support the library and a vibrant community. Eugene Public Library Foundation responsibly manages financial contributions, which include endowments of $5+ million which are facilitated through Oregon Community Foundation.

Approximately 65% of City of Eugene residents are library card holders. The Library is an institution that is fundamentally free and highly accessible to our community across backgrounds. Programming collaboratively developed and funded by the Foundation includes Public School Access Initiative, and adult and childhood literacy programming, services, and materials. We are also the funding affiliate for the Imagination Library of Eugene, which provides free books to children 0-4 in Eugene.

The Foundation firmly believes that the Library is a resource for everyone in the community and maintaining its services, providing access and engaging with the community are key components for a healthy community.

Position:

Eugene Public Library Foundation’s Executive Director leads the Foundation’s work to support Eugene Public Library in its efforts to inspire lifelong learning and to enrich the entire community through the organization’s fundraising, public relations, advocacy, Imagination Library of Eugene engagement, and related activities.

In collaboration with the Foundation’s Board of Directors, Eugene Public Library staff, and donor community, the Executive Director champions learning and accessibility to Eugene Public Library. As a philanthropic partner of Eugene Public Library, the Executive Director partners with Eugene Public Library and City of Eugene staff and officials to ensure the Foundation’s work is consistent with goals and needs of the library.

The Executive Director also supports the Foundation’s Board of Directors and is responsible for compliance with all relevant legal, governmental, and financial requirements.

Opportunity: 

Eugene Public Library Foundation is currently seeking a relational leader who is dedicated to serving Eugene Public Library and its community by inspiring philanthropic support, championing the needs of our community, and engaging in meaningful conversations about the library’s role in Eugene and beyond.

Position Summary:

Lead. The Executive Director provides leadership in maintaining positive, productive relationships among the Foundation Board, Friends of the Library Board, Imagination Library Advisory Board, Eugene Public Library administration and staff, and the community.

Fundraise. Create giving opportunities, strategies, and incentives for charitable giving. Establish goals that challenge and motivate participants to increase support for the library via individual gifts, annual campaigns, major gifts, event oversight, capital campaigns, planned gifts, sponsorships, lifetime giving, foundation giving, and grants. Build partnerships in the community to further this goal.

Advocate. Articulate the goals and visions of the Foundation and build champions within our community. Participate actively in local ballot levy campaigns and state legislative campaigns. Spread the word to the public regarding the library’s value and purpose, needs and goals.

Boards. In collaboration with the EPLF Board President, support the scheduled Board meetings and provide monthly reports on Foundation affairs. In collaboration with the Imagination Library Advisory board, attend and provide financial information and registration status data. The Executive Director support new and existing board members and collaborates with the board on strategic visioning, action-plan development, and implementation of plans.

Manage. Manage legal and fiscal responsibilities of the Foundation, ensuring the Board is advised of its obligations. Maintain required financial and legal records. Complete grant and endowment reporting. Work with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to develop and manage annual budget. Supervise staff (Development & Communications Associate) and volunteers. Oversee the production of marketing and fundraising materials.

The Executive Director also completes other duties as assigned.

 

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrable fundraising success, including through individual giving, grants, and capital campaigns
  • Working 5+ years in nonprofit management that included successful community engagement and advocacy
  • Administering the financial operations of a nonprofit organization including budget development in conjunction with board leadership, financial oversight, and grant reporting
  • Working with a wide range of individuals including a volunteer board of directors, elected leaders, and community volunteers

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Overseeing and/or managing capital campaigns (highly desired)
  • Leading public advocacy for ballot measures
  • Engaging and collaborating with community members and partners with a commitment to increasing the access and inclusion of diverse groups
  • Working with or demonstrable understanding of libraries and library operations
  • Maintaining donor databases, and effectively utilizing Google Suites, Microsoft Office, MailChimp or similar platforms

Compensation: Salary for this position is $85,000/year plus benefits.
