The 360 Reviews team operates as a startup within the larger U.S. News organization, giving it a fast-moving, innovative culture, matched with the stability of an established and respected media company. Using unbiased, data-driven ratings, 360 Reviews covers consumer products and services as well as a range of business products. Our core segments include Insurance, Home Services, Business, Home Goods, Deals, Digital Privacy, and Technology.

The 360 Reviews Assistant Managing Editor is responsible for managing multiple editorial teams. They implement content strategy for transactional pages and evergreen features as well as occasional videos, photos and other content types. The ideal fit for this role has a burning desire to create high-quality, effective content with our readers' best interests in mind.

The Assistant Managing Editor provides guidance for editorial team members, oversees projects and manages several editorial calendars. They routinely collaborate with an enthusiastic group of team leaders, product managers, research analysts and SEO analysts. This position reports into the Managing Editor of 360 Reviews and is based in our Washington, D.C. office. This position is also open to U.S.-based remote workers.

Our ideal candidate is dedicated, detail-oriented, curious, efficient, and a team player. As part of the job, you will:

  • Manage senior editors, editors, freelancers and other editorial staff over video conferences, emails, and instant messages.

  • Uphold a positive work environment that fosters teamwork, communication, innovation and professional development.

  • Implement content strategy, working with editors, SEO analysts, data analysts, product managers and team leaders to ensure that projects are completed according to plan.

  • Coordinate strategy across multiple projects and media types.

  • Work closely with the SEO department to help shape content. Ensure editorial teams are carrying out SEO best practices.

  • Manage editorial calendars for multiple projects. Provide day-to-day team support to ensure deadlines and goals are met.

  • Assist with hiring, training and ongoing coaching.

  • Partner with editorial leaders to develop team editorial guidelines. Monitor content to ensure it meets brand principles and standards of top-quality, error-free work, and that content is consistent across segments.

  • Stay abreast of new trends, best practices, and Google algorithm updates as it relates to 360's topics, content marketing, SEO, lead generation, and e-commerce.

  • Use and review spreadsheets, tables, sets of data, and methodologies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

You should definitely have:

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional editing experience for a digital publication, magazine, or similar entity.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing staff editorial teams.

  • Experience managing a remote team.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience managing quarterly or yearly editorial calendars.

  • Expertise in SEO best practices with a minimum of 3 years of experience writing and/or editing for SEO.

  • Experience writing, editing or implementing strategy for consumer advice and/or content marketing.

  • Proficiency managing multiple projects simultaneously and staying flexible while consistently helping your team meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Journalism or related degree or equivalent experience.

  • Expert writing, fact-checking and editing skills.

  • Expertise and prior experience using AP style.

  • Utmost attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication, time management and organization skills.

  • Ability to quickly learn multiple, complex subjects concurrently.

  • A strong ethics philosophy and a desire to do the right thing for consumers and search engines alike.

It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience writing, editing, or developing strategy in one or more of our coverage areas (Insurance, Home Services, Business, Home Goods, Deals, Digital Privacy and Technology).

  • Experience with Searchmetrics, Google Suite, Jira and Airtable.
