Description:
Business Publications Corporation (BPC) is seeking to fill the position of editor for our dsm magazine division, which includes award-winning brands dsm and ia. The ideal candidate will be an innovative leader who can shape a creative editorial vision for the future and implement a demanding multimedia program of work across multiple platforms.
We are looking for an individual who is experienced at leading teams and collaborating cross-organizationally. This person should be a detail-driven, highly organized self-starter who is adept at managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Editorial leadership:
- Lead the editorial vision and execution of dsm and ia brands across print, digital and multimedia platforms (with the support of design, production and events teams), including:
- Print: Regular issues of dsm magazine, the annual ia magazine, and specialty publications, including Lifting the Veil and Inclusion magazines.
- Digital: Website and social media content.
- E-newsletters: The weekly dsmWeekly, bimonthly ia, and bimonthly dsmWealth.
- Events (virtual and in-person): dsm and ia unveilings, Home Design Awards, Discover Diverse Des Moines, Lifting the Veil, Sages Over 70, LGBTQ Legacy Leader Awards.
- Lead the editorial vision and execution of dsm and ia brands across print, digital and multimedia platforms (with the support of design, production and events teams), including:
- Content creation and management:
- Develop print and digital story ideas and make assignments to staff writers and photographers, freelance writers, and contributing photographers.
- Content and line edit staff and contributor work to ensure quality editorial content.
- Write stories for the various platforms.
- People leadership:
- Lead editorial team, including hiring, day-to-day management and administration, performance reviews, mentoring and training, 1x1s and department meetings.
- Work cross-organizationally with BPC colleagues on special projects.
- Budget:
- Manage editorial and freelance budget.
- Project management:
- Collaborate with operations leadership to create a program of work and annual production schedules and timelines.
- Manage magazine timelines and project plans, and ensure delivery of quality products on time and within budget.
- Company leadership:
- Support BPC’s strategic priorities and uphold company values.
- Participate in BPC Extended Leadership Team.
- Represent the magazine division at other BPC events.
- Attend company meetings, BPC Leadership Academy and other training or team events.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Significant editorial leadership with community journalism publications or brands, including experience collaborating with design and production teams.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related communications field.
- 5-plus years of experience leading teams and/or a freelance staff.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills for print and digital platforms.
- Experience in digital media.
- An ability to multitask at a fast pace and meet overlapping deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage project details efficiently and effectively.
- An ability to collaborate, problem-solve and think strategically.
- Adaptability and flexibility in a quickly changing industry.
- Initiative and an energetic and proactive approach to work.
