The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung is looking for a new county/crime reporter. This beat covers Comal County government as well as the local first responders including the city police department, county sheriff’s office and local fire departments.
This is a very active beat with lulls that will allow the reporter to work on enterprise or deeper articles. The candidate should have a strong writing style, a very firm understanding of the ins and outs of criminal justice reporting and a willingness to ask tough questions and chase down the hard-to-find answers.
The Herald-Zeitung is a five-day print daily in New Braunfels — in between San Antonio and Austin and one of the fastest growing cities in the country — with an active website that publishes breaking news seven days a week. The paper was recently named the best small newsroom in the state of Texas by the Texas Association of Managing Editors.
Interested candidates should send resume and clips to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line CRIME REPORTER in all caps. This is a quick fill position, looking to hire ahead of the current reporter’s retirement, and allow some overlap for introductions and knowledge transfer.
