The Odessa American is a daily newspaper in West Texas in need of a sports writer to join its staff.
Along with coverage of UTPB (NCAA Division II), Odessa College (NJCAA), the Midland RockHounds (Double-A affiliate of the Oakland A's), the Odessa Jackalopes (NAHL) and the 24 high schools in our coverage area, this position will also be responsible for Permian High School football coverage in the fall.
We are looking to move quickly on this hire as the first day of practice for high school athletics is Aug. 1.
Applicants will need a bachelor's degree and one to two years experience, along with an ability to multi-task several assignments during the week. Photography skills are an added plus and highly recommended. If you have past design experience with InDesign, that's a bonus, but not required, as we no longer build pages in house.
