We are looking for a player-coach for our newsroom — someone who wants to make a difference in the community she or he serves by being passionate about generating and shaping local content across a variety of platforms.

The right person will be able to generate content on a daily basis and work with his or her staff to make them better journalists. The managing editor also has primary responsibilities for shaping the look and feel of the print content on a daily basis and, in partnership with the publisher, will help make decisions that shape the future direction of KDM news products. He or she needs to be equally talented as a journalist, photographer, newsroom leader and paginator. Advanced knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign are must-haves.

In addition to a great work assignment, the managing editor gets to enjoy everything Kodiak has to offer. An island in the Gulf of Alaska, Kodiak is a vibrant commercial fishing port. It is also home to the largest U.S. Coast Guard base, the world-famous Kodiak bear and miles and miles of hiking trails, beaches and camping opportunities. If you like the Great Outdoors then Kodiak is the perfect place to live, work and play.

We are owned by a nonprofit foundation that also owns the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, so there are opportunities for advancement. KDM values a diverse workforce and diversity in its coverage. We are an equal opportunity employer.
