Your impact:
Hearst Autos is seeking a research editor to work across print and digital primarily for Car and Driver and Road & Track. In service to our engaged enthusiast audience, the research editor will ensure that all content is accurate, upholding our reputation as industry-leading automotive publications. This role is based in Ann Arbor, MI. Please note: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with salary requirements and a cover letter.

What you'll do:

  • Fact-check content—including reviews, technical specs, and complex features—for multiple print issues, plus digital content as needed; conduct research to verify information, meeting high standards for accuracy
  • Collaborate with Autos testing team, writers, top editors, copy editors, and designers to resolve issues
  • Confirm facts by reviewing materials such as automakers' specs and internal test results, and reaching out to sources such as automotive PR
  • Make edits that are consistent with brand style
  • Maintain records of factual backup
  • Edit and route InCopy files and PDF proofs
  • Delegate workload to freelance research editors when needed and train them in procedures

Who you are:

  • You have at least 5 years of professional, post-grad experience in fact-checking editorial content and are as enthusiastic about cars as our readers
  • You have a background in journalism, engineering, English, and/or editorial research
  • You have strong math skills and an understanding of all manner of automotive specs
  • You pay intense attention to detail, letting no information go unchecked in copy and charts
  • You work well with others and communicate queries diplomatically
  • You efficiently juggle deadlines for multiple pieces at a time
