The Albuquerque Journal is seeking an energetic assistant city editor to manage early morning operations on our City Desk.

We’re looking for someone with impeccable news judgment and editing skills who can juggle a variety of tasks while helping to support, coordinate and guide our daily news coverage.

Your work will include editing stories for content and clarity; writing first reports of breaking late-night and early morning news stories, posting them to our website and sending out alerts; updating the homepage with our readers in mind; sorting through emails and phone calls for story leads and directing them to the appropriate reporter; and monitoring coverage by wire services and local news sources.

The job requires Sunday evening shifts, but the tradeoff is long weekends — you’d be off at 3 p.m. on Thursdays and would be free until 3 p.m. on Sundays!

We are based in Albuquerque, which offers easy access to the outdoors, an affordable cost of living — and a world-class food culture.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related degree with equivalent experience.

The Albuquerque Journal is an independent, family-owned newspaper with a staff of talented, motivated journalists who listen to and report on our multi-cultural community.
