Do you love sports and the outdoors? And some news, as well? If so, we may be just the right fit for your skills. The Mariposa Gazette, located in the Sierra Foothills of Central California, is a family-owned newspaper located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada and a gateway community to Yosemite National Park. Every page of our newspaper is local news and we are part of the essential makeup of Mariposa County as the newspaper was founded in 1854. We’re not going anywhere and we are bucking national trends with strong local news content and strong advertising content. The position will be responsible for covering high school sports, the outdoors as well as news coverage. The good news is we have only one high school, so it gives the right candidate a real chance to get to know the coaches and athletes. We also take a different approach to sports. Though game coverage and statistics are part of the job, almost weekly we print feature stories of our local athletes as part of our overall sports coverage. The right candidate will also be covering education in Mariposa County, including monthly school board meetings. But more importantly, we are looking for someone who can go beyond the meetings and dive into our educational system. The outdoors portion of the position speaks for itself: Mariposa County is one of the premier destinations in the country with plenty of opportunities (stories and recreation) both inside and outside of Yosemite. We offer a competitive salary and the position includes paid dental and vision insurance. We also pay a portion of medical insurance. Reasonable moving expenses will be offered. For more information about this unique opportunity, send a resume and cover letter about why you would be a good fit for this position to email@example.com. Recent university graduates are encouraged to apply.
