Description:

The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer is wanting to fill a full-time position with an energetic reporter who is looking for an opportunity to get a foot in the door of a daily newspaper.

If you have a passion for community journalism, this an excellent opportunity to write general assignment and feature stories. We’re looking for someone who is self-motivated with a "can do” attitude.

The Messenger-Inquirer, a newspaper in western Kentucky, is part of a growing newspaper chain of small and mid-size dailies, as well as weekly papers, primarily in the midwest and south.

The successful candidate will have excellent writing and accurate reporting skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.

We’d prefer a candidate with a year or two of small daily or weekly reporting experience, but recent college graduates with a degree in journalism or English — as well as candidates with a previous newspaper internship — will be seriously considered.

Owensboro is a growing and thriving community along the Ohio River. It’s two hours from Louisville and Nashville, and about three hours from St. Louis.

An excellent driving record is a must.

Hours are primarily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. M-F, with occasional Saturdays, Sundays and holidays required. We offer competitive pay and benefits.

Please send a cover letter, résume and clips to News Editor Scott Hagerman at shagerman@messenger-inquirer.com or mail to Scott Hagerman, Messenger-Inquirer, 1401 Frederica St. Owensboro, Ky. 42301.

No phone calls please.
