The National Star Route Mail Contractors Association — the national trade association for transportation companies that contract with the United States Postal Service to move the mail throughout the nation — seeks an energetic and deadline-driven communications associate and staff writer with proven journalism experience.


The communications associate and staff writer will provide daily news updates to its revamped website and to contribute feature and enterprise stories to the association’s monthly magazine, The Star Carrier, which is distributed to all association members, Postal Service decisionmakers, and members of Congress. Candidates should be social media-savvy, have a collaborative approach to work, and be able to frame complicated topics in approachable and compelling terms.

The right candidate will join a dynamic and close-knit team of dedicated employees that maintain a start-up mentality and the drive to deliver on that vision. He or she will write articles exploring the intersection between Postal Service policies and the transportation industry, providing our members and the thousands of companies that contract to provide the Postal Service transportation services with news they can use. Prior experience covering either the Postal Service or the transportation industry is desirable, but not required.

The communications associate and staff writer will have an opportunity to connect and work with some the leading transportation companies in the nation as they work with the Postal Service to transform how mail and packages are delivered to 161 million locations six days a week.

Prior Experience: Journalism experience required.

Education: A bachelor’s degree or higher required.

Pay Range: $40,000 – $50,000 commensurate with experience.
