The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate, Louisiana’s largest newspaper and a 2019 Pulitzer Prize winner, is seeking an experienced police reporter with a proven track record of producing competitive dailies along with compelling enterprise that tackles trends, impacts and key policy questions.
Crime coverage in New Orleans, one of America’s most fascinating cities, is high-profile and central to the success of our newsroom. They also should be drawn to street level reporting and have experience using public records, online tools, social media and data.
This reporter will cover the top brass at the New Orleans Police Department while chronicling the decade-long effort to rid the department of corruption and harsh policing tactics through federal oversight. Candidates should also have a sharp eye for trends, like the recent surge in carjackings and Interstate shootings, and the way local policing converges with race, class and political power.
