The Fort Worth Star-Telegram seeks an editor to lead our new service journalism team. These reporters strive to provide the answers to questions that our audiences have. We want to meet the needs of our loyal subscribers but also attract new audiences in our rapidly growing city. The service journalism editor helps coach these reporters to make our newsroom better at providing essential information to our readers, quickly and accurately.

The team uses a variety of analytic tools, along with knowledge of the diverse audiences in our community, to guide its work. This position requires a keen awareness of audiences and experience in the use of analytics to inform content development. Experience as an editor is preferred, but this could be a first step into leadership for an experienced reporter, social media producer or audience growth producer. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, one of the best metro newsrooms in Texas, is looking for a creative, audience-focused editor to lead a team of reporters in the production of high-utility and service journalism that helps residents navigate their lives and understand the news.

This editor’s priority is to help ensure our content is useful and essential, and that we are meeting our readers' curiosity and informational needs. The team, driven by audience growth and loyalty strategies, uses tools such as Google Trends to surface and answer questions readers are asking at the moment.

The ability to collaborate is a must, as this editor and team will work with colleagues across McClatchy’s newsrooms and with McClatchy’s news analytics and audience teams to create and evangelize audience-focused service journalism.
