Job Description:

The Writer produces copy tailored for publication across all communications platforms, including the university website, alumni magazine, social media, video, mailers, email and press releases. The Writer is actively engaged with departments and programs across campus to ascertain internal university news to be proposed for coverage and attends and writes stories on university events. Reporting to the Associate Director, Content and Marketing, this position assists other members of the Communications and Public Affairs office with copy editing a variety of written materials and proofing print publications.

Essential and Related Functions:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field required along with a minimum of three years of experience in daily news, magazine and/or marketing writing.  Must have the ability to write and adapt copy for all communications platforms and have excellent copy editing and proofreading skills. Proficiency with MS Office programs, PC or Apple desktop computers is required.  Must have excellent collaborative and interpersonal communications skills.  This position requires the incumbent to attend occasional university events (sometimes at night or during weekends), such as faculty and guest lectures, to cover and write stories.

The university requires employees to become fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and new employees must provide proof of at least their first shot prior to the first day of employment. Individuals may seek a medical or a religious exemption to the vaccination requirement.

Benefit Eligible

FLSA: Exempt

Weekly Hours: 35

Minimum Pay: $55,131.00

Pay commensurate with experience.
