The Nashville Scene is an a medium-circulation alternative-weekly newspaper that has been serving our city for three decades and counting. A strong, independent voice, the Scene covers news, music, film, food, art, culture, and state and local politics in a way that only we can — with hard news, creative feature writing, long-form reporting, analysis and criticism that serves a diverse readership, and does so with a voice.

Job Description

Responsible for managing editorial workflow and overseeing day-to-day distribution of our stories online. This includes website maintenance and management, assisting the editor-in-chief in assigning responsibilities to staff, writing and editing copy, maintaining a social media schedule and preparing email newsletters. Will also work with leadership to shape digital content contributions.

As managing editor of the Nashville Scene, this person will also help edit some stories, both online and for print. They will develop and continuously update a suite of web analytics and data-reporting products; provide regular analysis and report to publisher and editor; coordinate with our marketing and events team on social media and website strategies; manage and direct freelance writers who contribute to our print publication and website. Additionally, they will assist with select digitally-related tasks for the Scene’s sister publications at FW Publishing, including but not limited to Nfocus magazine.

Reporting to the Scene’s publisher and editor, they will lead development of stories and multimedia content for our website, newsletters and social media.

And finally, the managing and digital editor should be passionate about journalism, reporting and writing, and want to cover a beat and contribute editorially. Whether that beat is food, news, state and local politics, music, film, visual art or culture, we want to incorporate our new hire’s voice into our body of coverage.
