The Washington Missourian, an award-winning twice-a-week publication in Washington, Mo., is seeking a full-time, on-site copyeditor.
The copyeditor works with both the news and prepress departments to read all newspaper copy and ads for spelling, grammar, punctuation and adherence to AP and/or in-house style. The copyeditor also helps to ensure the accuracy of names and addresses in newspaper copy. In a typical week, work is split so that approximately 40 percent of time is spent editing ads, legal notices and obituaries, and 60 percent is spent editing news/editorial copy. The copyeditor must also occasionally edit for basic spelling, grammar and readability other outside publications, such as brochures or newsletters, that are printed by Missourian Media Group.
The ideal candidate would be someone with a journalism degree who is able to work efficiently and in a timely manner to complete duties before press deadlines. Pagination skills are a plus.
