Join a growing, dynamic and experienced team of journalists who are building a nonprofit, community-supported news source for Springfield, Missouri, a beautiful place to live, learn, explore nature, build a career, raise a family, and more.
The Springfield Daily Citizen's Reader Engagement Reporter gathers material and writes the email newsletter for the Springfield Daily Citizen and develops/manages the social media voice for the organization. This reporter is adept at writing engaging headlines and summarizing content with conversational style. The goal is to build community online, compel conversation and establish the Daily Citizen as an accessible source for local news. Working with the Managing Editor, this reporter will use data analytics to understand the needs of our audience and learn best practices for engaging readers. As time allows, the reporter assists with digital content and multimedia production and reports and writes daily and in-depth stories.
Staff members of the Daily Citizen will enjoy a hybrid workplace with set office hours to develop camaraderie and routines, as well as flexible schedules to accommodate modern work preferences. The newsroom is based on the Missouri State University campus within walking distance to restaurants and coffee at the Plaster Student Union and surrounded by the energy and support of higher education.
Our website and related digital products are set to launch in early 2022 with a focus on helping citizens understand and take action on key issues. The Daily Citizen is a different kind of news source: a nonprofit run by local people and supported by local people and organizations. And we are committed to presenting news in a factual, nonpartisan manner.
