The Digital Producer is responsible for maintaining our online Things To Do database, writing events-focused stories for our Guide section and writing quick-turn stories and aggregations for the Arts & Entertainment section. The producer helps expand and improve our online coverage of local arts, culture and events with an eye toward audience engagement.
Responsibilities and duties:
Gather and input accurate and complete information about events happening in Dallas-Fort Worth
Work with others to maintain our online Things To Do listings with event information
Build weekly event listings for our print Guide section
Pitch and write event-focused stories for online and Guide
Pitch and write quick-turn stories and aggregations off the news for our online Arts & Entertainment section
Expand and improve Arts & Entertainment coverage by promoting and packaging stories with an eye toward engagement
Assist with special digital projects, including video and audio projects, as needed
Good news judgment, accuracy, speed, grammatical precision, a flair for headlines, energy, curiosity and an ability to provide the best local cultural coverage with impact, excitement and an eye toward digital success
Versatility as both a journalist and as a web producer.
A keen demonstrated interest in one or more of our subject areas (music, movies, books, visual art, theater, etc.) that informs smart coverage of it and related arts topics
Proficient in learning digital content management tools
Use social media for newsgathering and audience development
Demonstrated ability to work remotely via smartphone or laptop computer
Understanding of platforms and audiences and ability to compose stories appropriate to the platform of publication (e.g., voice, style, formatting, hyperlinks)
Basic knowledge of SEO techniques
Use accepted newsroom tools for planning, authoring, communicating, etc.
Collaborate effectively with team members and across newsroom team
