Copy Editor/Editorial Assistant wanted

Do you know the difference between lie and lay and which should be used when? Are you the person who shares grammatical pet peeves on social media? Do you find organization and planning fun? Have we got the perfect job for you.

Observer Media Group is looking for a whiz-bang copy editor/editorial assistant to help with the production of its weekly newspapers.

With five papers in production each week Monday through Wednesday, our Sarasota office is a hub of activity. We are looking for someone who can help keep the editorial trains running smoothly each week by copy editing all pages, coordinating and managing special sections, among other miscellaneous tasks that make editors’ lives easier.

The right candidate should have an eye for details, a nagging sense of perfectionism, a passion for the English language and storytelling, and a team-centered, do-what-it-takes mentality.

The pay range for the position is $17-$20 an hour, based on experience. This is currently a part-time position, 15-24 hours a week, but has the potential for growth and benefits. Our production schedule is typically noon to 5 p.m.  Monday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday — additional hours can be more flexible. Although we prefer an in-person worker, remote candidates will be considered.

Interested? Please email your resume and a note explaining why you’re the ideal candidate for the job to Executive Editor Kat Hughes at KHughes@YourObserver.com.

No phone calls, please.
