Description:

We’re seeking a great colleague who shares our commitment to making journalism better, and making newsrooms better places to work. In this role, you’ll work closely with our senior leaders and with prospective clients to meet with and understand the training and professional development needs in journalism and journalism-adjacent organizations. In consultation with the potential customers, you’ll help identify the right Poynter educators and expertise to meet their needs, and create proposals and contracts to help clients understand how Poynter Partnerships will deliver exceptional solutions as they serve communities and thrive in the media marketplace.

In this role, you’ll need to have a strong understanding of newsroom functions and  keep a sharp eye on trends in the media industry. You’ll be a great listener and use your research skills to gain a thorough understanding of the clients as you help to develop proposals. You’ll collaborate with Poynter’s journalism experts to help them be effective and responsive to our clients. You are highly organized and will maintain accurate and detailed records of all communications with clients, draft agreements, monitor changes and deadlines. You’ll be expected to keep confidential information private-- including financial arrangements. And you will have a positive, eager-to-help attitude.

The Poynter Institute has experienced tremendous growth as the journalism industry faces new challenges and transformational change. Poynter is recognized internationally as the preeminent institute for journalism education, with the world’s leading faculty in newsroom leadership, DEIA, and fact checking all supporting our traditional expertise in the craft of journalism.

Poynter is a nonpartisan, non-profit 501(c)(3), delivering professional development programs at news organizations, colleges, virtually and in person. Poynter trains newsroom managers and media executives in leadership, ethics, storytelling, diversity and inclusion, business models and digital transformation. Our clients include television, radio, magazines, newspaper and news websites, college students and professors, and those in the corporate and non-profit sectors.

This role is aimed at those with a connection to journalism but also with an instinct for improving business results for our Institute and for journalism companies. We encourage applications from those who believe their skills and experiences are compatible with the mission outlined, even if they haven’t specific previous experiences. So tell us about yourself, and let us know how you think your past experiences might make you right for the job. Poynter values diverse voices and views, and we hope to see candidates of all backgrounds apply.
