Description:

EdSurge, a nonprofit news publication covering education, is looking for a versatile part-time reporter who is passionate and knowledgeable about the people and ideas that shape education—especially during this period of extreme change and upheaval. The reporter will cover the business of education, with an eye toward how this rapidly growing edtech sector is impacting educators and students in early childhood, K-12 and higher education, and play a key role in producing our popular Biz newsletter.

The pandemic has led to record investment in edtech. Our coverage aims to cut through the hype of press releases and boosterish financial interests to look at trends in what companies are offering and whether and how those tools and services are meeting the real needs of educators and leaders at schools and colleges. This is not about covering individual fundraising announcements or the latest mergers or acquisitions; it’s about connecting dots and picking up on controversies and challenges, and it’s about listening to educators, leaders, policymakers and entrepreneurs to provide independent reporting on the complex and changing ecosystem of education.

We welcome creative, confident and concise writers who can communicate complex ideas to our audience. Not every article will be 700-900 words long; sometimes charts and graphs do a better job at telling the story.
