The Centre Daily Times is looking for an energetic, versatile Service Journalism / Education Reporter.
As a service journalism reporter, this position will seek to help readers navigate life in central Pennsylvania. The audience-focused reporter will use engagement tools such as Google Trends to produce stories that answer questions readers are asking in the moment.
This reporter will also dig into important issues on the education beat and serve as a watchdog for area school districts. The position will cover a range of topics that affect K-12 families. The ideal candidate is a self-paced reporter who can identify and pursue stories without waiting for the assignment and who can build sources and produce compelling, accurate journalism.
The reporter should be able to juggle longer-term enterprise stories with day-to-day breaking news.
The position is based in State College, but the reporter should be comfortable spending a significant amount of time in the field.
Qualified applicants understand the critical importance of headlines, SEO and visual storytelling tools, and are adept at employing strategies to grow readership in the digital space, using social media and analytics tools such as Chartbeat or Parse.ly.
