The Daily American Republic, a five-day-a-week newspaper in southeast Missouri, is seeking a full-time sports reporter.
Located in Poplar Bluff, which is a 2 1/2-hour drive from both St. Louis and Memphis, the area features plenty of outdoor activities to offer with golf, lakes, rivers and the Mark Twain National Forest nearby.
We cover a junior college that has won two national championships in basketball like it’s a Division I program while area high schools are our main focus. There are also community events from youth activities, motorsports and an amateur golf tournament that attracts the top players from around the region.
As part of Rust Communications, we help with an award-winning regional sports website, semoball.com, and the Semoball Awards, an annual event that honors the top athletes with an award show.
The ideal candidate will be able to write features, a weekly column and cover games on deadline, providing updates on social media and taking photos, as well as helping with pagination at times.
Our newsroom uses InCopy, InDesign, Photoshop, and works with Apple products.
This position is full-time with benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance, 401K and free life insurance.
