The M.E. reports directly to the publisher and is the newsroom’s leader, responsible for overseeing and
driving an effective flow of content from conception to execution across all platforms. Our ideal
candidate is a community-minded professional and hands-on manager who can wear a lot of different
hats – copy editor, page designer, editorial writer, writing coach and occasional reporter - all while
inspiring and directing our team of talented journalists.
You must have a passion for community journalism, a keen news judgment and a strong understanding
of online content including social media. Strong organizational and communication skills are critical for
the M.E., who is the key person in setting newsroom standards, mood, expectations and culture.
Previous beat reporter and editor experience as well as a thorough knowledge of InDesign, and the
ability to paginate with solid layout and design skills are a must. This is a terrific opportunity for an
assistant editor or managing editor at a weekly who wants to experience the rewards of running a daily
