Here/Say Media is seeking experienced reporters with a strong interest in San Francisco politics and civic affairs. The Senior Reporters will dig deep to tell unique stories about the city and how it operates, focusing on local political and community leaders and the public policy concerns of residents and others who care about the city. Beats will include traditional metro journalism focus areas such as cops and courts, housing and homelessness, and transportation, but we are also looking to break the mold in various ways. The roles will involve a wide range of story types, from quick news stories to major investigations, with frequent multitasking.
The ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of full-time journalism experience and a track record of delivering unique and powerful stories. Outstanding reporting and writing skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with others in a fast-paced environment. The ability to juggle multiple types of stories simultaneously is also required. Experience with City Hall reporting or other aspects of metro journalism would be a strong asset. Knowledge of politics and public policy in San Francisco, and California more broadly, would be ideal, but is not required. We are also very interested in creative thinkers who can bring new perspectives to this kind of role.
The senior reporters will have the opportunity to be in on the ground floor and help shape a next-generation local news business. The role requires physical presence in San Francisco, and we expect to be a largely in-office company, Covid permitting. We offer competitive salaries and excellent benefits.
Interested candidates are asked to send a resume, three clips, and a short letter setting out why you want this job to firstname.lastname@example.org.
