Description:
Global seafood news service seeks reporter to cover Alaska/West Coast
Undercurrent News, a subscription-driven business news service focused on the global seafood sector, seeks a scoop-hungry reporter to join its North America team to cover Alaska and the West Coast.
Our UK-based business, founded and run by journalists, is growing its subscriber base fast. So, we're looking to hire a talented reporter in North America, where a sizeable percentage of our readership lies. The reporter will focus on driving our coverage of the seafood sector in Alaska and the West Coast of the US and Canada. The role is home-based, but the successful candidate needs to be in Alaska or in the West Coast time zone.
Our editorial focus is on company and market news, seafood prices, supply, trade, policy, and mergers and acquisitions. So, the reporter will be breaking news on these areas, as well as dealing with press releases and other incoming material. A background in covering the seafood sector -- especially in Alaska -- would be desirable but is not a must. At least two years of business reporting experience is essential, however.
First thing in the morning, the reporter will also be expected to help get our daily Americas newsletter out.
Then, the focus will turn to original reporting for an enterprise piece for the next day. This could be a roundup on what's driving the movement in pricing for Alaskan pollock or salmon in the US market or an interview with a top CEO who has just inked an acquisition. Additionally, we often break important news in real-time, much as a wire service would.
We will assign beats and coverage areas to the reporter and give contacts and context to get going. However, we expect the successful candidate to be a self-starter who can take these beats on and make them their own, often working with minimal supervision due to time zone differences.
The role would suit a reporter looking to advance within a global and entrepreneurial business. There will also be domestic and international travel openings with the job.
Please send a resume, a brief cover letter and two of your best clips to apply@undercurrentnews.com. The cover letter should succinctly outline what you would bring to the role.
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.
