University Communications focuses on building the brand, enhancing the reputation and growing public understanding of the University of Chicago, where rigorous inquiry shapes fields, creates a transformative education and experience, and confronts the most important problems of our time. The communications team in collaboration with UChicago Creative, the University’s in-house creative agency, specializes in content creation, media relations, public affairs, brand strategy, and video and audio production for the University, while serving as a communication partner and center of excellence across UChicago.

Job Summary

The Media Relations Manager supports sciences, technology and innovation to help drive media coverage and increase public understanding of scientific discovery, innovation, and impact across the University and affiliated national laboratories. This position will work to elevate UChicago’s research eminence, its leadership in building and defining scientific fields, and its solutions-focused approach to innovation. The Media Relations Manager must be passionate about cutting-edge science and eager to find new ways to tell the huge volume of interesting stories. The Media Relations Manager must be able to translate complicated science into easy-to-understand language, juggle multiple assignments at once, pay close attention to detail, perform well under pressure, and work well with others.
Successful candidates will join a progressive, dynamic, and results-oriented team, and will serve as the key point people for distributing news of research and this position offers the opportunity to interact regularly with leading scientists and national journalists, and to be at the center of high-visibility, high-priority announcements that have the potential to shape scientific fields.

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
