The Editorial Director (comparable to an Editor-in-Chief in other newsrooms) oversees all editorial operations at Colorlines. They lead and oversee the Colorlines team, including editors, writers, freelancers and the audience engagement manager. Additionally, the Editorial Director (ED) maintains a consistent editorial voice and determines Colorlines’ strategic direction. The ED is responsible for managing the Colorlines budget, making publishing decisions, and supporting the creation of Colorlines policies. The ED serves as a liaison between Colorlines and all relevant teams at Race Forward, in particular, HR, Operations, Accounts Payable, Development, Technology, and Communications (which includes art and video). They also partner with the Publisher to cultivate and manage external relationships including publicists, partnering organizations, and others. The ED may represent CL in media and on panels as needed.

The Editorial Director will play a key role in the in-progress Colorlines strategic planning process intended to re-imagine the role of Colorlines in the landscape and set a cohesive organizational strategy; and launch a new editorial structure and revenue framework that supports the new editorial strategy and enables long-term sustainability. Since this is an ongoing process, aspects of this position may shift in accordance to how the team decides to shift.
