The Appeal, a five-day daily newspaper in Marysville, California is in search of a reporter/paginator to join our newsroom. The full-time, entry-level position would require news reporting and extensive page design work for the daily publication.
Candidates must have prior experience using Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, along with an understanding of AP style. Candidates must be able to work nights and have access to reliable transportation. The individual must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, a quick learner, and be able to meet daily deadlines and juggle multiple assignments at once.
Experience using ProImage Newsway workflow and BLOX CMS is a plus.
—Design and paginate news, sports and some special sections/features, as necessary;
—Edit copy, write headlines, edit and rewrite captions, proofread pages;
—Edit and post stories to website;
—Demonstrate sound news judgment and an ability to report.
—Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, communications or related fields preferred.
The Appeal (https://www.appeal-democrat.com/) publishes print editions Tuesday through Saturday in the Yuba-Sutter area, daily online content and monthly/quarterly special sections and magazines, as well as weekly newspaper coverage of Colusa, Glenn and Tehama counties.
