Trending Reporter, Dining/Retail

The Morning Call in Allentown, Pa., is looking for a reporter to expand our coverage of the Lehigh Valley’s dining and retail scene. This reporter would look at restaurants, dining and retail from the consumer viewpoint, reporting on trends and issues, from the impact of the pandemic to controversies to food safety, as well as breaking news and other features. This position would also seek to engage our audience through debates and contests, such as “Who has the best pizza in the Lehigh Valley?” and “10 places that make a great cheesesteak” and would help manage our “Go Eat Lehigh Valley” Facebook group. The right candidate should understand how to find great stories and tell them with compelling clarity. Previous experience as a food or dining writer is a plus but not a requirement.

The dining/retail reporter will help create premium content for and other digital platforms that engages audiences and supports the newsroom’s mission. You bring expertise and knowledge to coverage areas and can create the most compelling content the newsroom has to offer in text and other forms, including, when appropriate, video, audio, Facebook Live events, etc. You should have exceptional writing and reporting skills and be fluent in assessing audience through basic metrics and publishing on other platforms such as social media. You should be prepared to promote yourself, your work and The Morning Call through social channels, in broadcast media and at live events.

The Morning Call is a Tribune Publishing newspaper, ideally located 60 miles north of Philadelphia and 90 miles west of New York City.
