Job Description
Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, the leading source of news for Baton Rouge area businesses and professionals, is seeking a versatile and enterprising reporter to take on the role of staff writer.

The staff writer is responsible for developing and producing original content for the monthly magazine and for Daily Report, Business Report’s twice-daily e-newsletter. Articles for the magazine will range from brief items and professional profiles to large feature stories and cover packages that also require infographics, sidebars, tip sheets, timelines and multimedia. Business Report places a strong emphasis on being the first in our market to bring important stories to our readers, but the staff writer should also be able to deliver items with comprehensive perspective and analytical thought.

The staff writer must have solid news judgment, as well as strong reporting, writing and organizational skills. Being able to multitask and produce high quality content in a fast-paced, deadline-orientated environment is key to being successful in this position. The position also requires the ability to collaborate with editors regularly to develop original enterprise stories and produce compelling content for our readers. A commitment to excellence, accuracy, integrity and ethical practices in the newsgathering and writing process is a must.

The ideal candidate will have two to five years of experience in newsgathering and writing in a fast-paced, deadline-orientated setting. Experience with WordPress, Google Docs and data visualization tools is preferred.

A minimum of a four-year college degree in journalism or related field is required.

Work arrangements are flexible, but availability is dependent upon candidate’s knowledge of the South Louisiana/Baton Rouge area.
