The Dallas Morning News has an opening for a Breaking News writer who will cover a full range of news on deadline that reflects the trending topics of the day.
The ideal candidate can move easily and effectively between high-interest aggregation and high-impact enterprise. Public safety reporting is an integral part of the job, as is supporting the newsroom’s efforts to cover politics, education, the social justice movement and other community concerns.
We work in a fast-paced environment that requires the ability to synthesize critical information and news quickly, as well as the skill to develop, write and present compelling articles for our digital and print audiences.
Our diverse team of writers coordinates coverage day and night, so a talent for close collaboration is essential. We also want team members who demonstrate exceptional skills for covering key topics with authority. Examples of past employees’ areas of specialization include transportation, fair housing and social services.
We are looking for candidates who have strong reporting and writing skills and are adept with social media. Applicants also should be knowledgeable about basic analytics; digital story building with links, tags and SEO; multimedia storytelling; and headline writing. A minimum of two years of experience is preferred.
