Navigator Publishing is seeking a staff writer for Professional Mariner, a quality-minded monthly magazine covering the U.S. maritime industry.
This person will write news and features for the print magazine and contribute to the website. The ideal candidate is an accurate, resourceful reporter and clean, clear writer. The ability to develop story ideas, multi-task and work independently is a must. Social media and editing skills are a plus.
Our magazine isn’t interested in quarterly earnings reports or executive profiles. We publish original reporting that is useful and relevant to American mariners. You’ll have the chance to ride aboard vessels, write about interesting people and pursue investigative stories. Opportunities for some company-paid travel, as well. Maritime knowledge helpful but not required to succeed in this position.
Navigator Publishing, based in Portland, Maine, is a refuge from the increasingly corporate media landscape. We offer competitive pay and benefits, a flexible work environment, and the ability to work remotely. We'd like someone based on the Gulf Coast but will choose a candidate based on skills and experience rather than location.
Please send resume, cover letter and work samples by March 2 to associate editor Casey Conley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
