Social & Digital Presentation Editor

Responsibilities: The Presentation Editor will own and execute The Colorado Sun’s daily narrative by advising on the daily story budget, writing newsletters, managing social accounts, helping craft headlines, setting our homepage, engaging with the audience on social media and other online platforms and more.

Duties: The person in this position will be the connecting hub between The Colorado Sun’s journalism and our readers on a daily basis, as well as maintain and develop the institutional voice of The Sun. Person would report to The Sun’s CTO.

  • Newsletters: Help construct and write The Sunriser, the daily aggregation of news from The Sun and other Colorado news outlets
  • Social media: Take lead on distributing The Sun’s work on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and other platforms to come in a high quality, engaging way
  • Story budget & production: Help editors decide on the timing, content and presentation of The Sun’s stories, including assisting with headlines, SEO and advocating for the reader in the editing process
  • Homepage management: Manage the layout of to present the strongest narrative of the day, with a mix of breaking news and evergreen stories
  • Partner and wire production. Monitor and selectively produce stories from The Sun’s partner sites and wire services to help the day’s narrative

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong news judgment. The ability to maintain journalistic ethics while still being engaging for readers. Being able to spot news angles and give readers necessary context
  • Writing voice. As a writer on The Sunriser, this person must write in a relatable but authoritative voice. They also should be familiar with and be able to write in Associated Press style
  • Social media creation and consumption. This person must be comfortable on all social platforms both as a creator and consumer. Experience with platforms’ native tools (Instagram stories, Twitter threads, etc.) a must, experience with third-party creation tools (Spark, Canva) a plus
  • Basic graphic design. The ability to use tools like Adobe Spark to design professional-looking graphics to help promote Sun content
  • Wordpress or other CMS experience. Good understanding of how a modern content management system works. Wordpress Gutenberg experience a plus
  • Big news consumer. Ability to keep tabs on the Colorado news landscape in real time and identify how to help The Sun’s work stand out
  • Newsroom experience preferred but not required. We’re building the newsroom of the future and seek digital natives who can identify trends -- or create them -- to expand The Sun’s reach as a local, reliable news source
