El Paso Matters is seeking a reporter to join our diverse and innovative team of journalists covering the El Paso border region.
This reporting position will focus on key issues along the U.S.-Mexico border — including immigration, border enforcement, COVID-19 recovery and marijuana legalization. This position will be a key part of a unique binational media collaboration, with funding from Microsoft, that aims to rebuild local journalism by developing deeper, richer and engaging content to form connections with the communities we serve.
We’re looking for:
A reporter with two or more years’ experience in a newsroom. Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
Experience reporting on the U.S.-Mexico border or other predominantly Latino communities is a plus.
Someone who can work independently under deadline and juggle a variety of assignments, from short- and medium-term enterprise to more substantial signature projects.
Experience working with data is preferred.
Strong collaboration skills are crucial.
El Paso Matters is a nonprofit, nonpartisan news site that focuses on in-depth and investigative coverage of the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez border region. We began publishing in February 2020 and in our first year were named one of four finalists for the Online News Association’s General Excellence in Online Journalism Award for micro news sites. We offer competitive salaries and benefits.
El Paso Matters is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status.
