Job Summary
The City Editor position is responsible for gathering, assigning and processing hard news, spot news and
enterprise stories for the print and online editions of The Bozeman Daily Chronicle and associated social media.
The City Editor makes story, photo and video assignments, works closely with the reporting staff and other editors, helps to copy edit stories, helps to proof pages and prepares a daily story/photo and video budget. The news editor also has reporting duties, which may include town and county government, coverage of Gallatin County courts, police and other breaking news.
The City Editor takes part in daily news meetings with the editor and managing editor to plan and to discuss stories for the next day's edition, online content and postings and takes part in long-range planning for future story, photo and video projects.
This position also updates the assignments calendar and fields inquiries from the public in person, on the phone and via email and social media.

The successful candidate must be flexible, a self-starter, attentive to details, diplomatic, able to
provide direction, and able to multi-task. This position will work with different personality types and
across a number of publications. Candidates for this position should have strong interpersonal skills
and client orientation and exhibit an ability to work effectively with internal and external contacts.
Requirements
Essential Functions
• Ability to write, to take photos and video, strong organizational skills.
• Must be able to edit and format copy and be able to anticipate work loads based on production
schedules.
• Makes assignments, edits copy, captions, video content and helps to proof pages.
• Performs job duties and conducts self in accordance with company core values.
• Initiate and nurture effective, professional relationships with internal and external contacts.
Minimum Requirements
Prior reporting/editing experience required. Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
Technology Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is helpful along with social
media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Education
Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field required.
