Description:

Texas Monthly is looking for an experienced art director to direct and produce visual solutions for editorial stories. This art director is a strong conceptual thinker, with immaculate design skills. This is a contract position, starting immediately, with the potential to turn into a staff position. Remote candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates based in/willing to located in Austin.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•  Art direct and design stories across platforms
• Assist in photo research and assigning
•  Create original art/photo illustrations for website
•  Assign original illustration, as needed 
• Create graphics and logos for various platforms

 Successful candidates possess the following skills/abilities:

•  A strong portfolio of work designing across a range of platforms
• Excellent typography and layout skills
• Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
•  Proficiency in WordPress, HTML/CSS, and Sketch
•  Illustration and motion graphics skills are a plus

Education and Experience: 

BA/BFA in visual arts, journalism

5+ years of editorial experience
