The Grand Forks Herald, a newspaper in northeast North Dakota, seeks to fill a unique hybrid position: Digital content producer/sports.
A digital producer helps drive audience growth and engagement through daily content creation and/or production to digital publishing platforms, including website and social media management. This position also includes night-time writing duties, with an emphasis on sports.
What does this mean? We seek someone who can spend half or more of a shift tending to the many and varied needs of a top-notch website, pushing content, organizing the site and generally being the point person responsible for all things digital (news, sports and other content and our social media channels) during the late afternoon and evening.
Meanwhile, this employee also must be able to lend a hand to our sports department, covering games, writing previews and feature stories, both for online and print consumption.
Create and/or aggregate daily digital content - stories, video, photos, quizzes, etc.
Edit/rewrite content and headlines to appeal to audiences.
Share and promote digital content through various social media channels.
Assist in management of the local website to ensure a local and up-to-date content experience for readers.
Ensure local teams have up-to-date digital platform and tools training; serve as a superuser for the content management system and digital content dashboards.
Work with local and regional newsroom teams and the FCC content network on projects and initiatives to grow online audience and loyalty.
Night-time writing duties, as assigned, with an emphasis on sports.
Other duties as assigned.
Excellent communications skills and knowledge of and interest in digital and social media platforms.
Writing, video and photo editing knowledge preferred.
Strong command of grammar and punctuation.
Must be creative, hardworking and a self starter.
Must have a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is insurable by the company.
