The York Dispatch is seeking an experienced cops and courts reporter to join an aggressive team of journalists in south-central Pennsylvania. Accountability journalism is our passion at The Dispatch. And we’re seeking a journalist with a passion for breaking news, police and courts to aid in that mission.
You should be comfortable with requesting public documents, culling daily arrest dockets, covering trials, and turning quick, clean copy that informs our readers in compelling ways.
York County, Pennsylvania is a diverse region. With about 450,000 residents, it includes urban centers and suburban townships alike.
As such, this job also requires a basic understanding of municipal budgets and politics as funding for regional police departments has become a hot-button topic here in recent years. This past year, one agency dissolved in York County. Another's future is being debated right now.
These are stories that are important to communities throughout our coverage region and telling them accurately and with the urgency they deserve is part of our mission.
