The Casper Star-Tribune, Wyoming’s statewide newspaper and best daily for three years running, is seeking a talented journalist with strong writing and copy-editing skills to join our team.

In this hybrid role, you’ll be working both as a general assignment reporter, with a focus on breaking news, and on the Star-Tribune’s copy desk. On weekends, you’ll be guiding our papers through production while keeping an eye out for stories that develop.

As a reporter, you will have the opportunity to cover a wide variety of stories and get experience hopping on breaking news stories when they arise. As a copy editor, you will give stories a second edit, facilitate the design process and make final judgments on design proofs.

The ideal candidate will have excellent time-management and organizational skills, including the ability to work under deadline pressure while managing multiple responsibilities. You’ll need to be able to take charge and be decisive, especially on the weekends when you’ll often be working independently. Flexibility is critical. We want someone who can turn a breaking news story on a fire one day and step in for a reporter who is on vacation the next. The ability to cover sports is a big plus.

Strong familiarity with AP Style and grammar is essential to this job, as is the ability to write news stories quickly and cleanly.

Previous reporting or copy editing experience is preferred for this beat, but candidates fresh out of college will also be considered. A bachelor’s degree is also preferred.

We take pride in being our state’s top media voice. In January, we were named the best daily newspaper in Wyoming for the fifth time in the last six years, and we take pride in routinely breaking the state’s biggest stories. Our reporters regularly take home awards at state, regional and national competitions, and we have a reputation for developing journalists, many of whom have gone on to major publications across the country.

Outside the newsroom, Wyoming offers endless outdoor opportunities. We’re at the base of a beautiful mountain range where you can hike in the summer and ski in the winter. Camping and world-class fishing are just a short drive out of town. Casper boasts the big-city offerings of restaurants, shopping, microbreweries and the arts while still giving you plenty of room to breathe. And if you’re missing the big city itself, Denver is down the interstate.

The Casper Star-Tribune is a Lee Enterprises news organization. We offer an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays and vacation. We are an equal opportunity employer. You can see our website at and learn more about our company at
