CHIEF VISUALS EDITOR (PHOTO / VIDEO) – GLOBAL WIRE SERVICE
A global newswire seeks an experienced photo and video editor to serve as its most senior voice on visual elements in news stories.
This contract position includes oversight of photos, videos, maps, charts, graphs, infographics, photo illustrations, complex data visualizations and other images.
The CHIEF VISUALS EDITOR will report directly to the executive editor. Compensation is competitive.
This mission-critical editor will have primary responsibility for making sure news stories are illustrated in a way that’s easy for readers and viewers to comprehend and appreciate, but also full of impact.
The position involves acquiring photos and videos, negotiating their use and costs, and ensuring that they can be used across the network of syndication partners without violating any U.S. copyright holder’s rights.
The successful applicant will have at least 8 years of experience editing photos and videos for significant news outlets, and will be fluent in the language of copyrights, contracts, fair use, works for hire and privacy rights.
We are looking for the right professional to engage video crews all over the world, recruit freelance photographers and videographers, and acquire photography and video footage, sometimes in bulk.
The successful applicant will welcome hands-on work, lightly editing footage, feeding videos to outside platforms and taking charge of our content libraries’ growth.
This wire service works only with journalists who satisfy the field’s standards of professional ethics. The chief visuals editor will enforce them on contributors daily, while working with other senior managers and supervising a small but soon-to-grow number of other visuals editors.
