Northern New York Newspapers has a unique opportunity for an experienced editor ready to manage a six-day per week newspaper in rural Northern New York. The historic Malone Telegram has an extensive record of publishing a first-class newspaper for residents of Franklin County.
The ideal candidate will be steeped in local journalism, a digital leader and ready to get in the trenches of the community and work with staff members. Self-starters with a strong sense of news urgency are encouraged to apply.
While the Telegram’s coverage is largely based in the northern half of Franklin County, its location as the county seat makes it the definitive voice of the area, which encompasses the St. Lawrence River Valley and the Adirondack Mountains. The Telegram has no problem finding news.
Malone is home to a highly rated, family oriented alpine skiing area, a 36-hole Robert Trent Jones designed golf course and numerous ponds, streams and lakes — an outdoor enthusiasts paradise.
The Johnson Newspaper Corporation is headquartered in Watertown, New York, and publishes daily and weekly newspapers across the state, including the north country, Western New York and the Hudson Valley. Its flagship publication is the highly respected Watertown Daily Times.
The Telegram editor needs to be able to operate independently, but has access to a network of experienced journalists throughout the Johnson Newspaper Corporation for both support and guidance.
Send all application materials, including a cover letter, resume, clips and references to JNC St. Lawrence/Franklin County Editor Tom Graser at firstname.lastname@example.org and Watertown Daily Times Assistant Managing Editor Sydney Schaefer at email@example.com.
The Johnson Newspaper Corporation is an equal opportunity employer.
