Capitol News Illinois, a nonprofit and nonpartisan news organization that covers state government from Springfield, Illinois, seeks a full-time reporter to cover the General Assembly, state offices and agencies, and Illinois courts. Capitol News Illinois coverage is published in more than 420 daily and nondaily newspapers statewide with a combined circulation of more than 2 million. We produce print and digital content as well as the Capitol Cast podcast, and are looking to add broadcast and video elements to our reporting. You will join talented and experienced journalists at the Capitol who are committed to our mission of providing credible and unbiased coverage of state government that helps address a shrinking press corps at the Statehouse. Prior experience of covering Illinois state government is preferred but not required. Capitol News Illinois is committed to diversity and especially encourages members of underrepresented communities to apply, including women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities. Capitol News Illinois is operated by the Illinois Press Foundation. We offer a competitive salary and benefits. If you're interested, please provide a resume, a cover letter that outlines how you would approach the job, and at least 5 examples of your work.
