The Corruption Laboratory on Ethics, Accountability and the Rule of Law (CLEAR Lab) of the Democracy Initiative at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Specialist.

The Democracy Initiative is an exciting and ambitious interdisciplinary teaching, research, and engagement effort, bringing together a diverse range of scholars, government leaders, and practitioners to study and advance the prospects of democracy around the world.  The CLEAR Lab conducts research and develops curriculum, programming, and public engagement to address the causes, methods, and consequences of corruption.

The CLEAR Lab seeks to appoint a Research Specialist to conduct research and investigate federal government spending related to the United States’ pandemic relief measures.  The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (Cares Act) authorized the allocation of more than $2 trillion to address Covid-19 and its economic consequences. The CARES Act was the largest stimulus package in U.S. history, with provisions focused on citizens, small businesses, the health care sector, and other major industries.

Required Qualifications:

Salary range is: $50-$55,000 depending upon experience, plus benefits.

Benefits Include: The choice between 3 different health plans; vision and dental insurance; life insurance; benefits savings accounts; starting with 22 days of paid time off a year in addition to 12 or more paid holidays; 8 weeks of paid parental leave; short term disability and more.

This is a restricted one-year position.  However, the position may be renewed for an additional one year, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.  The maximum duration for this appointment is two years.  This position can be in Charlottesville, VA, or at an approved remote location within the United States.
