Description:

The Idaho Mountain Express, the state’s largest non-daily newspaper, is seeking a full-time sports reporter. We need an organized, lively, error-free writer with a passion for telling the stories of Wood River Valley sports and athletes. The candidate must be able to take charge of all content on sports pages, collect sports calendar items, organize a Local Life section and be web savvy. Weird hours, including weekends. Must be organized, meticulous, self-starter. Bachelor's degree plus one year newspaper experience preferred.

This is a great community journalism job in the beautiful resort community of Sun Valley, Idaho, one of the most beautiful places in the nation. If you're a strong self-starter serious about good journalism and like the idea of living in a great area where people can hike, bike, ski, take in the scenery on a morning off and experience a world-class performance in the evening, then you may be a good match for this job.

The Idaho Mountain Express is situated in Ketchum, one mile from the world-class Sun Valley Resort, in the heart of Idaho's Rocky Mountains. The area has a thriving cultural scene and superlative outdoor recreation opportunities—including downhill and Nordic skiing in the winter, and excellent hiking and mountain biking in the summer—spanning vast expanses of easily accessible Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management areas. This is a rare opportunity to join a well-established publishing company situated in one of the country's most pristine recreation paradises.

The Express—recognized by the National Newspaper Association as one of the top large, non-daily newspapers in the country—has a strong tradition of providing award-winning news, sports and arts coverage. The twice-weekly newspaper has been honored numerous times by the Idaho Press Club as the best non-daily in the state and by the National Newspaper Association as one of the best non-dailies in the nation.

Candidates must have strong interest in local sports and mountain recreation, the inclination to dig for information, an ability to write clean, accurate copy, and a solid understanding of AP style. The position requires strong organizational skills and efficiency while working on tight deadlines. Must have valid driver's license and transportation.

The job comes with daily challenges that offer the right candidate an opportunity to excel under pressure.
