Description:

The Star Group is launching a local Virginia and Richmond news and news analysis digital news-site platform on July 22 in Richmond, Virginia: The Virginia Star. We are an affiliate of the Star News Group and its flagship, The Tennessee Star.

We are seeking a top-notch reporter to cover Richmond news, the state legislature, the upcoming local mayor's race and the VA 2020 federal elections. The position is for a full/time news reporter who can uncover and gather news, build relationships and get quotes and facts. Opinion writers need not apply.

The Virginia-Star is a center-Right news-digital daily publication. We want hard news and scoops, not endless opinion dribble.
The successful candidate must live in -- or be willing to self-relocate to -- Richmond, Va.

Must be able to meet daily deadlines, get scoops, out hustle your journalist competitors and work in a fast-paced no-nonsense team environment. This is NOT a lazy person's job.

There is a tremendous amount of creative daily enterprise freedom in this opportunity. Don't be expecting a boss to tell you what to do everyday.

At least 2 years of newspaper reporting experience is strongly preferred.

Richmond is an exciting, newsworthy place right now. Confederate and historiic statues are being torn down amidst a backdrop of protests and riots, with a highly controversial governor. RVA is a great place to live, work and play and it's a hotbed of news: never a dull moment! Also a contested governors race in 2021.

Base annual salary range is $40k-$50k based on experience. This is a growth media company that combines digital and radio broadcast media. Other local media outlets are shrinking and selling. We are buying and growing! Be a part of something big!

No furloughs here.
