Candidates must have strong writing, research and people skills. The position requires ability to take photographs and video for The Star Democrat & The Sunday Star, its online editions and also to share content with the company's other publications. Duties include assigned beat work of meetings, police and fire coverage and other spot news, and court coverage. Enterprise and feature stories strongly encouraged to round out each week's production of 10 stories a week with accompanying photographs and video as well as digital postings. Specialty areas of interests such as environment, health, and science encouraged. Proficiency with the Internet, social media and video taking required. This is a full-time position, with weeknight and weekend assignments part of the job.
The successful candidate must be flexible, attentive to details, diplomatic, able to take direction, and able to multitask. This position will work with different personality types and across a number of publications. Candidates for this position should have strong interpersonal skills and client orientation and exhibit an ability to work effectively with internal and external contacts as a team member as well as a team leader.
Prior reporting/editing experience required. Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Mozilla suite products and TownNews content management systems is preferred along with experience in social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Photography experience is a requirement.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field preferred.
