We are searching for a Clinical Trial Reporter to join the Market Insights Division or WCG, the world’s leading provider of solutions that measurably improve the quality and efficiency of clinical research. This position is located at our Falls Church, VA office.
Summary of Position:
The Clinical Trial Reporter is responsible for developing and writing daily, weekly and monthly articles on the clinical trial beat for CenterWatch Weekly, CenterWatch Monthly and Drug Industry Daily (DID). Most of the clinical trial specialist’s time is spent gathering news and expert viewpoints on clinical trial topics, by phone and in person, and writing stories in accordance with established CenterWatch and FDAnews style and standards. This position also must stay on top of key industry trends and events, new developments and key issues in clinical trial operations. The beat and the readership of the newsletters include all aspects of the clinical trials industry—trial sites, sponsors, CROs, investigators— and requires the specialist to understand the particular needs and interests of those groups. The CT Reporter also must develop enterprise features outside the regular news cycle to provide more in-depth information on key topics.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
File two feature stories of about 500 words and 5-6 briefs of about 250 words per week.
Monitor federal and international regulations and guidance affecting the clinical trials industry and report on those with direct relationship to clinical trial operations.
Attend an estimated 2-6 local and out-of-town industry and regulatory meetings/conferences annually.
Must provide final copy to production by editorial deadline and complete proofing and corrections to copy by deadline.
Meet with managing editor on the first working day of the week to create a tentative list of stories for CenterWatch Weekly, with deadlines, for publication of next issue.
Ensure the quality of information in the newsletters and that all deadlines are met.
Update list of enterprise stories you are writing and deadlines for each. Discuss regularly with managing editor, who should have the latest version.
Exhibit knowledge of the readership and judgment of what constitutes news for that audience, as well as from a general journalistic perspective; ensure reporting provides effective and appropriate news coverage.
With managing editor, help plan overall focus and coverage based on subscriber contacts and knowledge of key industry trends.
Work with subordinates, peers and superiors to produce exceptional publications that meet the needs of subscribers.
Help marketing department obtain mailing lists, such as trade group members and attendees at key meetings.
Standard office hours are between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
2+ years daily reporting experience required.
Experience in the clinical research industry is preferred, but not required
Ability to cover complex topics and report on them in a coherent, concise manner.
Understand the issues and intricacies of the various sectors of the clinical trials industry.
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate and speak consultatively to customers. Strong telephone skills and confident making daily phone calls.
