Description:
The Colorado Times Recorder, a Denver-based progressive news site, is looking for a Washington DC freelancer. Assignments will include reporting on the Colorado congressional delegation; events, such as hearings, press briefings, ceremonies, and conferences; fundraising developments, such as FEC filings; and on political issues of importance to Colorado, including relevant breaking news. Articles are about 500 to 1,500 words. Payment is $250 per article; more for longer projects.
Applicants must be based in the Washington D.C. area, so that they can attend D.C. events, but this is otherwise a remote position.
Tasks include:
- Covering the Colorado congressional delegation.
- Creating short videos along with written articles.
- Covering events, including press conferences, fundraisers, and hearings, related to the Colorado congressional delegation and to interest groups, public officials, and others with Colorado connections.
- Finding Colorado angles for Beltway-based stories.
- Tracking Federal Election Commission reports on fundraising by the Colorado delegation.
- Tweeting from events or live streaming them
- Cultivating relevant sources.
The successful applicant will probably have:
- Some proven research or journalism experience.
- Video experience.
- Some DC journalism experience.
- The ability to update websites and social media.
- Some familiarity with Colorado media and politics.
